Ariton defeats Straughn in homecoming game

It was a big night for the Ariton Purple Cats as they handed the Straughn Tigers their first loss of the season in addition to celebrating homecoming.

During the first quarter Ariton was able to hold Straughn to a scoreless quarter while scoring a touchdown themselves. However, during the second quarter, Straughn seemed to come back with some vigor, scoring two touchdowns. Still, they were no match for the Purple Cats who managed to leave the field at halftime leading 27-14.

Supreme Court denies Alabama's redistricting appeal, Orders additional majority-Black district

The U.S. Supreme Court made a significant ruling September 26, denying Alabama's appeal in a Congressional redistricting case. This decision follows a lower court's earlier verdict that found Alabama's new map violated the Voting Rights Act. The lower court had instructed a court-appointed special master to design three proposals, each aimed at creating a second majority- or near-majority-Black district in Alabama, where the Black population stands at 27%.

Ozark pays tribute to 131st Armor and Ft. Novosel with unveiling of striking mural

With a special designation of “Southern Leaders” and a motto of “Taught to Lead,” the 131st Armor Regiment was a fixture in Ozark for many years and was honored as part of an unveiling ceremony for the mural welcoming people to Ozark last Tuesday morning. The Ceremony started with music performed by the D.A. Smith Middle School band and an excellent version of the National Anthem performed by SSG Luchese, with Keith Reynolds providing the opening invocation.
