Montgomery, Ala – May 9, 2022:  CLAS recognized thirty Schools of Distinction across the eight State School Board Districts and announced the 2021 CLAS Banner Schools on Monday, May 9, 2022, during an awards luncheon in Prattville, Alabama. Selected as District 2 CLAS Schools of Distinction were Dale County High School, Dale County Schools System and Harry N. Mixon Intermediate School, Ozark City School System. Harry N. Mixon Intermediate School was also named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School for District 2. 

 The CLAS Banner School program was created in 2001 to recognize schools in Alabama that showcase outstanding programs and service to students. Each school was nominated for this award by their superintendent with 166 school programs nominated statewide.

Brewton Elementary School, Brewton City Schools; Brewton Middle School, Brewton City Schools; Chickasaw Elementary School, Chickasaw City Schools; Spencer-Westlawn Elementary School, Mobile County Public Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 1 with Chickasaw Elementary School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

Dale County High School, Dale County Schools; Harry N. Mixon Intermediate School, Ozark City Schools; Knight Enloe Elementary School, Roanoke City Schools; Phenix City Intermediate School, Phenix City Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 2 with Harry N. Mixon Intermediate School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

B.B. Comer Memorial Elementary School, Talladega County Schools; Elmore County Technical Center, Elmore County Schools; Hoover High School, Hoover City Schools; Thompson Middle School, Alabaster City Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 3 with B.B. Comer Memorial Elementary School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

Hillcrest High School, Tuscaloosa County Schools; Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Tuscaloosa City Schools; Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy, Tuscaloosa City Schools; and Tuscaloosa City Schools Literacy Silver Bullett were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 4 with Hillcrest High School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

Grove Hill Elementary School, Clarke County Schools; Pike Road Elementary School, Pike Road City Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 5 with Grove Hill Elementary School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

Hartselle Intermediate School, Hartselle City Schools; Little Ridge Intermediate School, Fort Payne City Schools; Ohatchee Elementary School, Calhoun County Schools; and Piedmont High School, Piedmont City Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 6 with Piedmont High School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

G.W. Trenholm Primary School, Tuscumbia City Schools; Harlan Elementary School, Florence City Schools; Lauderdale County High School, Lauderdale County Schools; Russellville Elementary School, Russellville City Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 7 with Russellville Elementary School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.

Bob Jones High School, Madison City Schools; Challenger Elementary School, Huntsville City Schools; James Clemens High School, Madison City Schools; Sparkman Middle School, Madison County Schools were selected as 2021 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 8 with James Clemens High School named as the 2021 CLAS Banner School.
