Human skeletal remains found off Johntown Road

By Adam Kamerer

Human skeletal remains were found off Johntown Road in Ozark on Wednesday, according to the Dale County Coroner’s Office.

John Cawley, Deputy Coroner, says “Two young men riding four-wheelers discovered the remains just off Johntown Road in a wooded area.” The remains are reportedly in a decayed state.

Cawley says the remains have decayed and have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for examinations. When asked about the gender of the remains, Cawley stated that the Coroner’s Office was not releasing that information at this time.

Todd Dorriety of Ozark Police Department is lead investigator on the case, according to Cawley. Dorriety could not be reached for comment at time of publishing.

More details in next week's newspaper.

"Remains were found in a wooded area off a dirt road portion of Johntown Road, also called Old Ewell Road, in Ozark."
