Ozark Police Department Released More Information About March 15 Drive-By Shooting

Ozark Police Department has released more information about the drive-by shooting that occurred yesterday, March 15. At approximately 5:20 p. m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 231 and Andrews Avenue in reference to a male subject that had been shot.

Ozark Police and Dale County Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene and discovered five male victims had been shot. Three were transported to Dale Medical Center for treatment and were released while two were transported to Southeast Health and are listed in critical condition.

Through witness statements and surveillance footage, officers were able to identify Da'mier Quadree Dontavis McDaniel and Lakevion Shider. The two occupied a blue Chevrolet Silverado, traveled alongside the victims' vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson, opened fire, and then fled the scene. The vehicle was later located on Noah Circle unoccupied.

Investigators worked leads throughout the night and discovered that both suspects were hiding from law enforcement in Clio, Alabama. With multijurisdictional assistance, law enforcement safely apprehended both suspects on Plank Road in Clio, AL. A preliminary investigation revealed the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute with one of the victims and the suspects. Both suspects were arrested on five counts of Attempted Murder.

Da’mier McDaniel was previously arrested in a similar firearm discharge incident in January after firing into an occupied vehicle. No one was injured in that incident and McDaniel was released. The Southern Star has reached out to the Dale County District Attorney’s office for comment on why McDaniel was released.

This case is still under investigation by the Ozark Police Department.

Ozark Police were assisted by the following agencies: Dale County Sheriff's Office, Department of Corrections K-9 unit, Barbour County Sheriff's Office, Clio Police Department, Louisville Police Department, Dale County Probation and Parole.
